Gunther Starts Shooting and Pump Finds a Studio!
We told you he'd be busy in his 69th year! The great news is that Arnold is BACK in front of cameras as production has commenced on his newest film, the comedy/action "Why We're Killing Gunther." We have some pics from the set to start psyching us up fo it!
That lovely Terminator-jacket-wearing woman is Hannah Simon, who noted on Instagram that "Why We're Killing Gunther is going to be a killer movie." The film also stars Cobie Smulders, Taran Killam, Bobby Moyniham, and Paul Brittan. It's directed and written by Taran Killam (SNL). The plot: A group of eccentric assassins are fed up with Gunther, the world's greatest hit-man and decide to kill him but their plan turns into a series of bungled encounters as Gunther seems to always be one step ahead. Stay tuned for more!
Another Arnold TV project is also moving forward, as Deadline reports CBS Television Studios recently made a deal to make the 8 episode hour-long drama series "Pump," which is based on Arnold's early bodybuilding days at Venice Beach in the 70s. Here's Arnold, who is producing the series, talking about it:
“I knew from our first brainstorming session that Pump would be a hit. The 70’s were such a colorful, transformational time, for me and for our entire country. I look forward to bringing that color to people’s living rooms with the fantastic, deep characters and the multi-layered story lines of Pump. I feel so passionate about this project because today it’s easy to take our gyms and culture of fitness for granted, but it all started with this wild group of bodybuilders as a tiny subculture in a little dungeon gym in Venice Beach. I can’t wait to get to work with our great team.”
This is fantastic news! We first reported on "Pump" a couple years ago, and it has hopped around a few studios, but now finally has a home at CBS. It's still unknown what network the show will air on (CBS Studios is creating the show, but distribution is a separate deal). If they want to go for the largest audience, network TV is possible, but if they want to have fewer content restraints like language, a cable network or streaming service would be a better home.
