PART ONE of Our Expendables 3 London Premiere Coverage!
On Monday evening, August 4th, TheArnoldFans arrived in London for the WORLD PREMIERE of The Expendables 3. It had been a little over 18 months since I last hit the red carpet here for THE LAST STAND, but as I arrived in Leicester Square, the memories came flooding back like I'd been on a trip to Rekall. The UK was deprived of premieres for Escape Plan and Sabotage so it was high time that an Arnold movie got some big promotion. I knew that my hero wouldn't be attending due to filming commitments on Terminator Genisys, however, this didn't stop me looking for more tales of high adventure!
I arrived a couple of hours early to get a good feel for things and soak up the ballsy atmosphere. As expected, there were hundreds of fans clutching Stallone memorabilia all lined up waiting to see their idol, having queued since early morning. The Odeon Cinema was playing the movie trailer on a loop and every so often it would bring up the names of the stars just to tease the crowd and give them that extra pump!
After a beer to steady my nerves, I picked up my pass and swaggered down the red carpet to take my place. The festivities were warming up nicely and my first smile of the day came when the crowd picked Arnold as their favourite action star, giving him the loudest cheer of all of the Expendables.
Stallone's prompt arrival on the red carpet was met with loud applause and cheers and the crowd really got going. Sly seemed in excellent spirits and joked about making Expendables 5 with every member of the audience. He took a lot of time to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the fans, which was nice to see after his somewhat discreet presence at the Ex 2 premiere.
Stallone departed the red carpet momentarily but appeared minutes later on a balcony above me where he heckled Jason Statham, who was being interviewed at the time. As the last few stars made their way down the carpet, I chatted with UK heavyweight boxer David Haye, who revealed that he is a big Schwarzenegger fan!
I really wanted to see Wesley Snipes and ask him if Blade would be BACK, but he'd been whisked along the red carpet and inside before you could say tax return! However, I remained patient like all good cyborgs do and seized my opportunity as he departed the red carpet....
TheArnoldFans: Will Blade BE BACK?
Wesley Snipes: "You never know!"
I then took to my seat within the packed cinema to watch the movie, which was met with laughs, cheers and applause throughout. Arnold has more screen time in this movie than he did in Ex 1 and 2 put together. I won't spoil things for those that haven't seen the movie yet, but we are treated to some classic Schwarzenegger and I have a feeling that if we ever see Expendables 4, Arnold will be the lead man along with Sly.
This movie gets a thumbs up from me with a 7/10 stogie rating. Now stop being such a girlyman and start getting PUMPED before you see this movie! Judgment Day is nearly upon us, so STOP WHINING and GET OUT to see this movie in theaters on August 14th!
Coming up next...my interviews with Antonio Banderas, Harry Knowles and Vinnie Jones! So stick around!
