For over twenty years, I have been obtaining the mightiest of autographs onto my most prized possession: the officially licensed Conan the Barbarian sword. Conan, my all-time-favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger film (and possibly my number one film in general) naturally began my love for Arnold even since my early youth. It is I, the sword’s chronicler, who alone can tell thee of the Atlantean's saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!
Many fans love a good autographed movie poster but for me, I felt a signed Conan the Barbarian sword would be a treasure admired by King Osric himself. While I have been working on obtaining signatures for over two decades onto this prized piece, I have not shared most of these images before. Sadly a coupe of these Conan cast members have passed away not long after they signed but their spirit remains powerful within the blade.
On one side of the Atlantean sword, I have the cast of the first film and on the reverse side; the cast of Conan the Destroyer had signed.
Side A: Arnold Schwarzenegger (Conan), John Milius (Director), Sandahl Bergman (Valeria), Cassandra Gava (Wolf Witch), William Smith (Conan’s Father), Franco Columbu (Pictish Scout), Sven-Ole Thosen (Thorgrim), Ben Davidson (Rexor) and finally, Gerry Lopez (Subotai).
Side B: Olivia D’Abo (Princess Jena), Sarah Douglas (Queen Taramis), Tracey Walter (Malak), Sven-Ole Thosen (Toga) and because he had the lead role in the TV series, Ralf Moeller (Conan).
Two dream signatures I’d love to still get would be James Earl Jones (Thulsa Doom) and Grace Jones (Zula). If anyone can ever help me on this mission, I’d love your advice.
Gerry Lopez was the latest to sign my sword and he was a hard one to get as he doesn’t do convention signings and he lives in Oregon. It was a fantastic morning to hang out with this actor last month as we spoke of his Conan days and his surfing passion. Now that I finally have Subotai’s signature, I can at last share some rare photos with you all. Click HERE to read an earlier interview I had with Lopez about his filming days of high adventure!
