On the red carpet of Netflix’s FUBAR premiere, the film’s lead actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, stopped off with TheArnoldFans to chat about the new action spy series which fires off some big laughs. After a discussion with Arnold about a FUBAR scene involving one long, continuous fight scene, I asked him about his knack for comedy, and it turns out we will be seeing our favorite action hero reunite with a great colleague co-star. Just because Triplets (the sequel to Twins) has been canceled, it doesn’t mean we have seen the last of the dynamic duo of Schwarzenegger and DeVito. They’re back with a new project, and Arnold is thrilled to be given the opportunity by film studios to make such a big comedy!

“It’s interesting,” Schwarzenegger begins, “because I always felt, in my whole life, that there’s a funny side to me, and an intense side, a serious side, a casual side and all those different sides, but in the beginning, because of my physical developments, no one would want me to do anything funny. They just wanted me to kick ass. They said, ‘This is an action star’ after I came out with Conan. I was the only one who was physically developed like that. Then everyone copied me and came in and started getting muscular and we created a whole action genre. So when I said to the people in the studio business that I would like to do comedy, they said, ‘Are you stupid, you think we are going to invest in comedy? We have a rule: don’t fix what isn’t broken. We are making a lot of money with you in action movies, so why would we switch over to comedy?’ So it was a ‘No.’ Only when Ivan Reitman came along and said, ‘I would like to do Twins with you and with Danny DeVito, and then the movie made more money than all the action movies, that’s when all the studios suddenly woke up and said, ‘Yeah, let’s give him a chance with comedies.’ SO then we did Kindergarten Cop, Junior, True Lies and all those other movies so, yeah, now, it continues on [FUBAR and with Danny DeVito].”

Schwarzenegger, Netflix’s newly appointed Chief Action Officer, continues to tell me about his next big movie, which promises to be big in both film genres.

“I’m finally doing regularly the things that I was meant for,” an accomplished Schwarzenegger tells TheArnoldFans. “I can do both [action and comedy] and this Danny DeVito project will be one of those projects where you see over-the-top action—James Bond kind of things, but also very funny.”

Danny DeVito and Arnold have been friends for decades. Recently, they entertained fans in a prerecorded introduction video at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and soon they will be behind the cameras again filming a new action comedy film. It is not yet revealed if the two will be partners, but I’d love these two to be adversaries—possibly face off against each other. Who should be the hero and who should be the villain? It is unfortunate that Triplets didn’t work out, but personally I’m quite a bit more excited for Arnold and Danny to star in this over-the-top NEW action project.

I just got out of the Hollywood premiere screening of FUBAR, and there are some fantastic one-liners in between the episode’s action and heart. Arnold’s delivery of comedic punches hits hard and his comedic timing and funny expressions only get better with age. I’ve only seen Episode One but I can’t wait for more! Join me in watching FUBAR on Netflix starting tomorrow, May 25th.
