While the last few Terminators didn’t perform to box office expectations, many fans thought it was the end of the franchise. However, when a Terminator is down, it ALWAYS gets BACK up on its feet.  As I said back in November of last year, "There is absolutely NO WAY that Terminator can ever come back as theatrical films… One way is for the Terminator to be picked up as a streaming platform like a Netflix original series.” Just announced, Netflix and Skydance have teamed up to produce an animated series based on the James Cameron universe! Skydance made the right move to bring the Terminator into Netflix, where it can build a new and potentially bigger fanbase.

Mattson Tomlin, who co-wrote the upcoming DC movie The Batman as well as Netflix’s own superpowered movie, Project Power, will act as showrunner and executive producer. The series is being produced in partnership with Production I.G. Details of the new take were not revealed but Tomlin is known for his big and dark concepts.

“Terminator is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created--and has only grown more relevant to our world over time. The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before.” – John Derderian (Netflix’s vp of Japan and anime)

"There’s no fate but what Netflix makes."

It is uncertain at this time if Arnold will lend his voice in the Netflix series but he is getting into the animated business these days so let’s hope Schwarzenegger may be back to the Terminator universe. He will for sure still be starring an a new untitled spy series for Netflix with cameras said to roll later this year.

Why stop at just one spy series? CBS is now developing a True Lies TV series with James Cameron set to executive produce! Maybe Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tom Arnold will reprise their roles as lead actors or they may give special cameos. I do have a hunch that the network will get all new actors to play the roles of Harry and Helen Tasker but that could lend the perfect opportunity for Schwarzenegger to play the head of the Omega Sector, previously played by Charlton Heston. How great wold Arnold look with an eye patch!

Burn Notice
's Matt Nix is attached to pen the script for the True Lies drama. McG (Terminator 4), who has been attached to previous attempts to reboot the 20th Century Fox film, is also set to direct the pilot and exec produce. McG did a fantastic job directing "The Babysitter” for Netflix already so I’m excited to see him get back to directing some big action! Lights, camera, ARNOLD!
