Good news for Arnold and zombie fans today regarding Arnold's zombie drama MAGGIE! Not only will the film be released in just a couple months, it will first make its screen debut at the 14th
Tribeca Film Festival. After the nine million dollar zombie art film gets its premiere within the dates of
April 15th-26th, we can catch it in limited theatrical release on
May 8th, distributed by Lionsgate's Roadside Attractions. Look for the
MAGGIE poster and trailer to hit any day now.
“Maggie has all the ingredients that spell commercial excitement, from a compelling script and an A-list superstar surrounded by a world-class cast,” said Steve Beeks of Lionsgate. “We’re delighted to continue our relationship with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who turns in a performance that marks a dramatic departure from his action persona, and partner with our friends at Lotus Entertainment on a film that will resonate with thriller aficionados everywhere.”
Congratulations are in order to director Henry Hobson for his film making it into the Tribeca Film Festival. Considering
MAGGIE was made to be an art film, chances are that
MAGGIE may not make a worldwide theatrical release. If it does come within a 300 mile radius from you, we recommend you pack your car with some great Arnold fans and make the journey to support this film and make it a hit. If the film's limited run in major cities does well, additional theaters are likely to carry the film. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't drive hundreds of miles to see a combination of Arnold and zombies in one film, but if you can't make it for whatever bizarre reason, you'll be able to rent it from your home by the end of this year. Terminators and zombies in the same year; Can it get any better? How about Barbarians? That's another story.
Arnold is really going to amp up his acting performance for this role and I'm very interested in seeing him prove to the world that he's got the natural talent. Get ready for Schwarzenegger's character to tug at your heart-strings with his emotional breakdown as
Maggie, his daughter played by Abigail Breslin, slowly transforms from a sweetheart to flesh-eating zombie.
TheArnoldFans also unearthed an opportunity to interview the man who WROTE
Maggie, John Scott 3!
MAGGIE landed on The Black List, a list of the best unproduced screenplays in the industry. There are only a handful of scripts that make it out of thousands for the year and
Maggie was a big winner of 2011. Although
MAGGIE is not the typical over-the-top Arnold action movie, screenwriter John Scott 3 tells TheArnoldFans that we will not be disappointed.
"I think everyone will have to wait and see," John Scott 3 begins. "That said, there are a handful of great moments in the film that I think fans will love. At its core, it's a father-daughter story and I'm excited to see Arnold in the role."
Abigail Breslin, playing the title character, also gets love from the screenwriter.
"I've been an enormous fan of Abigail's since I saw her in SIGNS," says John Scott 3. "I've loved her in everything I've seen her in. I'm very excited to have her as the titular character."
Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a farmer and father of three, living with his family in America's rural Midwest. When his eldest daughter
Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected with a mysterious disease that slowly turns its victims into zombie-like creatures, Wade is left with a decision that no father should have to face — while
Maggie, still a typical teenager at heart, is acutely aware that life as she knows it is soon to end. As she changes slowly but surely, her loving father remains by her side. But with her sense of smell heightening and her cravings for meat intensifying, how long can they delay the inevitable?
Let's hope Roadside Attractions will have a
MAGGIE booth and/or celebrity panel at Anaheim's Wonder Con in April. Wonder Con is one of the largest pop culture cons in the country with thousands of zombie fans. Individual tickets to see
Maggie will go on sale March 31 at
http://tribecafilm.com/festival/tickets, though you can purchase ticket packages starting March 9 that let you choose your films early on March 23. Let's hope Tribeca rolls out the dead carpet for the zombie premiere and if there is a premiere with Schwarzenegger, TheArnoldFans.com will be there!
