TheArnoldFans had an exclusive sit-down interview with Rob Hall:
student of Stan Winston, Schwarzenegger fan and lead make-up artist on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Rob, the ballsy rocker type who sports several cool tattoos, was jazzed to talk to TAFs about some developments of season 2. So pull up a chair with us now and get to know this make-up wizard in our part 1 interview with Rob Hall!

TheArnoldFans: Congratulations on the show being picked up again! How have things changed from working on the first season to the second? Is there a bigger budget in make-up?

Rob Hall: I woulnd't say that. (Laughs) I don't not envy the producers of the show, I mean, we are doing a show in 2008 that rivals a lot of motion pictures that are being made. And we're doing it every week for a rediculas budget and they somehow do it. And it's not just the cast. It's everyone, All the stunt people, everyone makes it look
so much bigger than it is and thats really the only reason that it succeeds. The producers are really really good at somehow pulling it off. I know what they have to deal with and it's obscene. Week after week we're doing a feature film and I'm fuckin proud of it. Budgets are slim but we've got to do some great stuff this year.

TAFs: I image you must be a big Garbage fan like myself. What''s it like working with Shirley Manson?

Rob Hall: Fuckin awesome. I saw her the first day she came when she got the role and she was just bouncing around, meeting everone and you know, I'm a huge Garbage fan since the early 90's. I love Garbage and she's tremendous and I was very excited to see her. From what I heard she hasn't done much acting but she's really natural and really
good... and it's fun to see that transformation.

TAFs: Would you want to DIRECT a future Terminator episode?

Rob Hall: It feels like it would be a good fit. I don't know, man. I've only directed stuff that I've written. I don't know how i'd feel about that. So Lena and I were talking about that the other day and she was like: 'Rob, you should direct one of these Terminators, you'd be fuckin amazing' and I'm like 'YOU should'...no 'You should' (back and fourth)... but if they asked me, I would certainly concider it.

TAFs: What can you say about the great Stan Winston and how he's affected your work.

Rob Hall: Well, I worked with Stan for almost a year, you know, back in the mid '90s. I did the "Island of Doctor Morrow" with him, "Relic", "Ghost in the Darkness" and Stan is a legend. He's one of the reasons that I came out; Stan and Rick Baker are the guys that I grew up reading about and one of the reasons that I cam out here(to Los Angeles). It was super, super tragic. I don't know if you could say I've taken the tourch over a little bit, but I'm super honored that I got to work with him and now 'm sort of carrying on a piece of him.

TAFs: What current shows do you admire for their make up?

Rob Hall: Smallville is pretty good, Heroes...when they have stuff. The cool thing for me is a lot of that stuff is sort of scattered in that you don't get to see a lot of it...like 5 years ago, when we were doing the Angels and the Buffys, Firefly...it seamed like there was a lot of big sci-fi stuff for the time on TV and now I feel pretty lucky doing Terminator because that's one of the only shows to still be doing this stuff.

Come back for our part 2 interview with Rob Hall when he tells us what his favorite Arnold movies are, talks Terminator models, and what about liquid metal make-up effects? For extra info, check out Rob's site at www.almosthuman.net!
